“Working with Engage Now Africa means you are working with a brother. They really make the impact of our work very meaningful. They understand what you intend to attain, and they go the extra mile. They give you more to gain more. I think of them as the number one partner for all our programs.”

–Faustina Abbey, Executive Director, United Way Ghana

United Way Ghana’s mission is to improve life in communities in areas of health and livelihood. “Everything we do is for the child,” Faustina Abbey, Executive Director of United Way Ghana, says. Knowing that one of the best ways to help children is to help their parents become educated and financially stable, they partnered with Engage Now Africa in 2019. We entered communities to learn their needs and dreams for their future, then created a program tailored to their needs. Through this program, parents were empowered with literacy and vocational skills. Although COVID-19 put the program on hold, our partnership remained strong. Together, we provided training to over 400 family heads on how to sew face masks and make soap and hand sanitizer, which were virtually inaccessible. Once the programs resumed as planned, our combined impact grew. We currently have five centers teaching soap-making and baking skills, which enables self-employment, and programs that teach literacy and financial skills

“Poverty cannot be solved with one solution,” Cecilia Amankwah, Engage Now Africa’s Country Director in Ghana, says. “We need a holistic view to help both child and parent. Alone, we can only do so much; together, we can make huge impacts. United Way Ghana is one of our most valuable partners.” We are so grateful to United Way Ghana for their partnership and look forward to what we can accomplish together going forward.
