Over the years, ENA’s Ethiopia Team has become acutely aware of the severity of cataract blindness. Our team has partnered with the Ministry of Health and the local hospital in Debre Zeit to help with the screening process. Nurses working in our health posts have been trained in identifying cataract blindness. In 2017, we identified 1,000 people suffering from cataract blindness and launched our first cataract clinic in the Debre Zeit area. During our first clinic, our medical team restored sight to 125 people. In the Spring of 2018, our team successfully provided sight for an additional 100 people. We hope to be able to operate on the remaining 775 people needing surgery to restore their sight.
